Hey everyone,
I have been diving into Sim Settlements lately and absolutely love how it adds depth to the settlement experience in Fallout 4. However, I am struggling a bit with balancing progression and keeping the game fun.
I find myself either micromanaging every little detail, which gets overwhelming,,, or letting things run on autopilot, which can feel a bit too hands--off:.
I am curious how you all approach this. Do you have any tips for finding that sweet spot where you're involved enough to enjoy the process but not so much that it becomes a chore: ?? Do you set specific goals for your settlements or just go with the flow: ??
Also, how do you handle the balance between aesthetics and functionality: ?? Sometimes I get so caught up in making everything look perfect that I lose sight of the bigger picture:. I also read this https://simsettlements.com/site/index.php?threads/patch-1-1-0-the-rebalancing-is-now-live-salesforce-admin.19254/ but couldn't get the solution to my query.
I would love to hear your strategies or any advice you have for maintaining a fun and engaging settlement--building experience without burning out:.
Thanks

I personally focus on fun, and try not to worry too much about managing things. I build my own settlements, and after paying for the initial costs of plots out of my own pocket, I then leave them be to grow themselves. Only time it really comes into play is with HQ, as I need resources for that. But by then I will have plenty of them stockpiled and ready to go from my industrial settlements.
I play with resource complexiy on categories to reduce the micromanaging.

I play with the resource difficulty set to components, because I love to micro-manage. I love to see scripts at work.
I turn off any daily operating costs for plots, because without fail I'll forget to pay them initially and then I just feel dumb for wondering why I can't upgrade anything (non-plot item daily costs I leave on, otherwise it feels too cheatery). I also keep auto-pay costs and auto-upgrade settings turned off, because to me that feels a little too out of my control - this slows down the game considerably, though.
I also build my settlements based on aesthetics. I usually have too many relaxation plots in any given settlement, but to me it makes sense because it looks good. Does it make the game harder when I get to the HQ portion of the story - yes lol.
However, I turn off HQ infestations and fires. And I disable disease incapacitation (although, I'm not 100% sure that setting works, or that I fully understand what it's supposed to do). Also, I turn off demolition FX because I forget they happen and they scare the crap outta me every time.
One of the best things about this mod is the replayability factor. I've played though it multiple times, and I see new things each time. I haven't even played with any high-tech plots, yet (since I don't let things auto-upgrade, I think)! The mod is massive, and they keep adding to it!
Another one of the best things about this mod is how customizable it is. Definitely scrutinize the MCM settings (or the City Planner's holotape) for the mod and personalize it to your playstyle, if you haven't already.

Micromanaging is fun. Limit to it is that you need only 4 good settlements + 1 one self-governing city plan from stodge company to finish tech tree.

I sometimes find myself in this position.. I go on these modes or whatever you would like to call it.
I will push a little in advancing story or ss2 quests.. Then I'll do building. I may go on magazine hunts or look for special settlers. I get so side tracked its crazy. Lol. I do get overwhelmed by the needs of my settlements though, like why do you need me for defense?! You have 300+, alien and plasma guns, all kinds of armor.. Stop losing the defense!! Lol..
Anyways, like the young lady said above, it may take a few play throughs, but you'll find that balance you're seeking.
