Is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 important to watch? ›

2 is one of my most beloved Marvel movies. Obviously it's visually stunning, it's action-packed, it's pretty funny and has some of the best song choices in any movie and it has a great heart. But above all else, as Groot's actor would put it, it's a movie that's all about family.

Guardians of the Galaxy and its sequel, Vol. 2, take place in 2014, immediately after each other. Meanwhile, Daredevil season 1 also takes place that year. In 2015, Agents of Shield season 2 deals with the fallout from Age of Ultron post-episode 19.

The second installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy series—though released three years later—reportedly takes place just a few months after the events of the first Guardians film. The second team-up of the Avengers superheroes, Avengers: Age of Ultron is said to take place in 2015.

4 is not in the cards. James Gunn is busy making a Superman movie, Rocket and Groot are busy leading the new Guardians, Mantis is busy finding herself, Drax and Nebula are busy raising space children, Gamora's busy being a Ravager, and Star-Lord is mowing lawns in Missouri. That all seems perfectly fitting to us.

2 is emotionally touching, it doesn't impact the MCU's grand designs despite altering the entire Guardians franchise. Plus, Avengers: Infinity War recaps Yondu and Ego's deaths, so fans can get the gist of what happened without watching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
